COLLEGE PREP FOCUSED TUTORING PROGRAMS
JEC prepares students for the rigor of an academic career at the college or university of their choice. Our aim is to develop educational capacity. To that end our centers offer classes on a variety of subjects, exam instruction and individualized enrichment sessions. JEC serves high-performing students looking for that extra edge and students who have not yet reached their academic potential. It is our belief that every student has the right to learn, to increase his or her mastery of a given subject and to realize latent talents and abilities.
JEC Mission Statement:
To provide an education that will ignite students’ pursuit of excellence and fuel their journey to academic success.
JEC Philosophy:
JEC's educational philosophy is based on the synthesis of two fundamental principals. The first is the belief that any student can learn any subject given the appropriate time and guidance. The second is the conviction that every person is born with an innate desire to learn.
Our students progress at their own pace rather than at a predetermined pace set by an outside source. We treat students as unique individuals and allow them to make discoveries at their own rates. Students move forward when they've successfully mastered a given objective, not when the bell rings.
Consequently, no student is ever left behind, and every student succeeds. Academic success inspires the student to master new subject matter and renewshis or her appreciation for education. Once a student's innate desire to learn has been awakened and the student is armed with the confidence and skill necessary to succeed, that student is no longer just a student. He or she has become an independent scholar capable of facing the demands of college and the workforce.
Who we are and how we operate:
The Jonathan Education Center (JEC) was established in January 2006 to provide superior specialized tutoring in three main areas: elementary education, middle and high school education, and college admissions. We understand that every student learns in a unique way, so we offer personalized instruction in a variety of tutoring styles, including small group workshops, small group personal tutoring, and private tutoring.
JEC's versatile and highly accomplished teaching staff help students improve their proficiency in the following major subjects: English, math, science, history, and standardized tests (SAT, ACT, AP, IB, SSAT, IEEE, and TOEFL, etc).
In addition to our normal courses-- which complement students' busy schedules during their fall, winter, and spring studies -- we offer customized intensive programs in ESL and SAT preparation during the summer and winter to help students continue to accelerate their progress.
What you can expect and rely on:
Upon registration, a new student is given a comprehensive diagnostic test to evaluate his or her current academic status. With the test results in hand, the center director engages the parents and student in an intensive conversation to form appropriate student goals. The center director then informs the instructor(s) of these goals, and together they create a personalized study plan for the student.
Once the plan is put into action, JEC closely monitors the student's progress through tests, homework, teacher comments, and student and parental feedback. Continued adjustments are made as the student improves.
